Jaguar's 2004 XJ, due to debut at the Paris motor show this fall, is a leap forward to make the top cat lighter on its feet. Jag's redesigned flagship is set to arrive in showrooms next spring.

Sources say the '04 model may look traditional, but its chassis uses riveted and bonded aluminum to reduce weight by 400 to 500 pounds (29 to 36 stone, for you Anglophiles) over its predecessor. At about 3500 pounds, the future XJ is even 200 pounds lighter than an S-Type.
