Toyota addresses oily mess

Toyota is taking steps to address an oil-sludge buildup problem that has damaged engines in some Toyota and Lexus models. Owners of 1997 through 2002 Toyota and Lexus vehicles equipped with 3.0-liter V6 or 2.2-liter four-cylinder engines are now covered against oil-gelling engine breakdowns for eight years, regardless of mileage. The program covers repair costs as well as ``reasonable'' incidental expenses such as a car rental while the vehicle is out of service.
