Serving on a task force is sometimes the association equivalent of a root canal, but members of the Ohio Library Council actually look forward to the meetings and reports coming out of its "Futures" project.
The official name is "Ohio Libraries: Charting the Information Future." OLC staffers chose seven topics (library services, staffing, technology, communications and marketing, measurement and evaluation, financial resources, and partnerships) that specially created task forces could examine in order to extract future trends and intriguing ideas. The task forces are filling chat rooms with ideas, struggling to narrow them down to a manageable number. They are knee-deep in literature searches of best practices in other industries.
