NEW YORK -- An estimated 40 million Americans suffer from canker and other mouth sores, but a recent study suggests that most people simply put up with the conditions and do not bother to treat them.

The study, conducted by Opinion Research International for Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals Inc., found that 61% of respondents who suffer from mouth sores use no treatment at all. The survey also found that only 11% of those suffering from mouth sore pain purchase an over-the-counter medication.
