When women workers from Thai Durable Textile, or Thai Kriang, took to the streets last week, their protests caused a traffic snarl that sparked angry rebukes from Bangkokians.

But since [Thailand's] Mother's Day [12 August] is coming up, let's look at the incident from a mother's view.

As someone who benefits from three months paid maternity leave, I consider the admonition of the street protesters a case of sheer forgetfulness. Maybe ingratitude.

Here's a reminder to tickle the public memory: Back in the early '90s, the women workers' movement campaigned hard for an extension of paid maternity leave from 45 to 90 days.
