This issue of the Women's Studies Knowledge from Thailand is long overdue. Its late delivery, however, reflects a reality, which we believe, is shared by many women's studies centers and programs in Thailand and the world over.
After the long years and many decades of women's movement over the globe, some feminist activists can be proud of increasing attention and commitment given to women's issues in the international arenas. Mainstream international organizations such as the World Bank and the Asian Development have subsequently waken up and begun to dispense special funds designated for gender mainstreaming. More resources mean more activities. But the issue of "woman power" within each organization is everyday one women's organizations are facing.
Hence, delivering tasks already at hand, capitalizing on increasingly available funds and expanding our horizons of work and monitoring
implementation of gender mainstreaming policy have become challenges to a number of women's organizations which resources are accessible.
Notwithstanding, many women's groups in many areas, the dire straits of funding have been here to stay. The question is not for them to explain why, but rather to all to help end the obstacles they face.
