In the moments following Fred Huston's murder conviction Friday, the family of his slain wife made clear what they thought of the killer as he slumped in his courtroom chair.
"Jerk!" Eldona Huston's son, Ray Campbell, yelled at Fred Huston.
"Rot in hell, Fred!" added Eldona Huston's grandson, Joe Thomson.
Whether this fate will eventually befall 82-year-old Fred Huston is, of course, unknown.
But he probably will die in prison for taunting his wife with death, then shooting her in the face in September at the couple's Sandy Valley home. The sounds of the slaying were recorded from a 911 call for help by Eldona Huston.
Following four hours of deliberation, a jury of nine women and three men convicted Fred Huston of first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon against a victim 65 or older. Clark County prosecutor L.J. O'Neale said authorities will recommend a sentence of 40 years to life in prison when Fred Huston is sentenced May 16 by District Judge Michael Douglas.
