The full title of composer William Duckworth's work is Talking Music, Conversations with John Cage, Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, and Five Generations of American Experimental Composers. The book is series of interviews with American composers Duckworth thinks most influential in the past 50 years. He manages to keep the conversations informative but entertaining without slipping into gossip. The most fascinating aspect of the book is how unique each of their careers has been. Very few have made an impact through the conventional route of college teaching and awards and prizes. Most of the composers built their careers from the ground up. (John Zorn performed for almost 20 years in clubs and cafes before his work gained critical attention.)
