Except that the ER is a long way from the jazz mags lining the top shelf at your local newsagent -- or even from the pseudo jazzy lads' mags supporting them from the shelf below. In fact, there's nothing else that compares to its wholly unrestrained brand of highbrow literary porn -- which helps explain why it's only available in bookshops and by subscription and why the self-styled edititrice Rowan Pelling was so desperate to save the title when it was sold off last year.
Pelling's changes for the relaunch issue of the ER, which returns it to circulation after six months of enforced abstinence, appear largely driven by commercial concerns. There's an expanded and modernised review section and more ad friendly features on shagging in cars and the capital's top sex boutiques.
