2002 MAR 14 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Digene Corp. (DIGE) has reacquired from Abbott Laboratories (ABT) the exclusive rights to distribute Digene's chlamydia and gonorrhea (CT/GC) tests and accessories worldwide.
Under a marketing and distribution agreement between Digene and Abbott Laboratories, Digene had provided Abbott with exclusive distribution rights to the Digene CT/GC tests in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Digene plans to begin distributing the CT/GC Tests in the U.S. and in Europe.
Evan Jones, Digene's chairman and CEO, said, "We are very pleased to regain distribution rights to our CT/GC Tests and the Rapid Capture System for the U.S. and European markets. Completion of this agreement will allow Digene to market the first tests for HPV, chlamydia, and gonorrhea from a single specimen providing significant benefits to our laboratory customers, physicians, and women.
