2002 MAR 12 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Researchers in the United States have identified a possible target for therapy against both HIV and Ebola virus infection.
"Retroviral Gag proteins encode sequences, termed late domains, which facilitate the final stages of particle budding from the plasma membrane," explained Dr. Juan Martin-Serrano and colleagues at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center and the Rockefeller University in New York City.
The protein sorting factor Tsg101 plays a key role in this process for both HIV and Ebola viruses, Martin-Serrano and coauthors found.
