Mexican authorities are resisting efforts by Greenpeace and other biotechnology opponents to require labeling of food products with transgenic ingredients.

Health officials maintain that there is no health or safety reason for biotech labeling. Nevertheless, agricultural authorities concede that it is necessary to keep track of the type of biotech foods entering the country in order to guard against another StarLink corn contamination incident.
