Clare Durward, the marketing director at J. Walter Thompson, has left after ten months in the role.
The news follows a difficult year for JWT with much internal restructuring headed by the chief executive, Simon Bolton, and a poor new-business record.
A statement released by the agency stated that Durward had "left the agency by mutual consent". It went on to say: "Clare has decided that the long hours are in conflict with her family life and has decided to take a short-term career break."
Durward has two children under the age of four and is expecting her third child in early March.
Bolton commented: "We all wish Clare well with her future family and career direction."
From March, the marketing strategy at JWT will be temporarily managed by Kate Bruges, a former managing partner at JWT.
