Manila, 9 January: Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on Wednesday [9 January] unveiled his new policy vision for East Asia and proposed an economic partnership between Japan and Southeast Asia, winning backing for both plans from Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Koizumi, who arrived in Manila on the first leg of a five-nation Southeast Asia tour, revealed the plans in his meeting with Arroyo at the Malacanang Palace [presidential palace].
