Byline: deferring the plants' start-up, Tenaga is aiming to keep reserve
THREE major power projects with a combined capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) will be delayed by up to two years and will only start operations between 2005 and 2008.
This is to avoid the country from having too much capacity which will be a burden for Tenaga Nasional Bhd that has to shoulder the costs of maintaining adequate reserve margins or spare capacity.
The delay also takes into consideration the slowing demand for electricity, now forecast to grow an average of 5 per cent this year, as compared to 9.4 per cent as initially projected by Tenaga.
