The Government is preparing to underline the importance of copyright, possibly by including it as a subject within the National Curriculum.

The news was revealed at Midem by Bill Rammell, Parliamentary Private Secretary to Culture, Media and Sport Minister Tessa Jowell, in a speech that highlighted the importance of fighting piracy and protecting the interests of copyright owners.

"There are a lot of things we can do at a technical level, but the biggest challenge is to make people aware of the importance of copyright," he said. "It's got to be part of the school curriculum -- perhaps within the citizenship programme we're bringing forward."
