Turkmen leader praises success, pledges responsibility for all at New Year.

Ten years of independence have brought unprecedented success to Turkmenistan, President Saparmyrat Nyyazow will tell the nation in his New Year address, according to the text of the address released by the Turkmen State News Service in advance. Nyyazow praised economic achievements, particularly the rise in GDP, and said 2002 should see the country aiming even higher. "We are responsible for the life and fate of every citizen," he added. Nyyazow concluded his greetings with a wish that the world and Turkmenistan should exist forever, and by wishing the Turkmens peace and prosperity.
