Beijing, 29 December: China, which takes the new century as the starting point for another takeoff, has continued to regard overseas Chinese nationals and those residing in China as a "unique opportunity" for attaining major development and, consequently, carried out the work related to overseas Chinese in a more active and lively way.

Viewed as a whole, China's overseas Chinese affairs in the first year of the new century show the following features: numerous activities, new forms, good planning, and far-reaching influence.
