This month, Spain takes the reins of the EU's rotating presidency, a six-month term that promises to put environmental issues at the forefront of collective European policymaking Climate change, sustainable development, and international environmental agreements will headline much of the work expected out of the EU this term.

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar has promised that addressing climate change will be a priority during Spain's turn at the helm. Among other issues, the European Commission will release a paper on the international dimension of sustainable development and administer continued discussions on the EU's Sixth Environmental Action Program. …
