Importers see no problem in shipping via the Canal

WASHINGTON (FNS) - Footwear importers are optimistic about getting their Far East shipments through the Panama Canal to East Coast ports, despite the temporary closing of the waterway following the U.S. invasion of Panama last week.

The Panama Canal Commission ordered the waterway reopened Thursday following a one-day closing. The commission expected the canal to resume 24-hour operations last weekend.
