Destiny's Child's third album, Survivor, couldn't be more aptly named. In an industry that disposes of girl groups daily, Beyonce Knowles' songwriting skills, standout vocals, and luscious looks have helped her pop trio crush the competition and stay on top. Now, after three chart-topping albums, the 20-year-old is breaking out on her own with a solo album. She's also making the transition from lead singer to leading lady as Foxy Cleopatra in the upcoming movie Austin Powers in Goldmember.

What's the biggest risk you've ever taken?

Moving on with the group after two members [LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson] left. We had two weeks before we were supposed to shoot the Say My Name video, and the Grammys were coming up. Kelly and I decided if we didn't find another girl who was right, we would go ahead and do it alone. But we found Michelle, and we knew from the moment she walked in the room that she was special.
