Danish composer Poul Ruders is to receive the Living Composer Award at this year's Cannes Classical Awards, presented at Midem on January 20, 2002 in the Salle Debussy of the Palais des Festival in Cannes.

The premiere recording of Ruders' opera The Handmaid's Tale on the Da Capo label secured the prize, which has previously been awarded to George Crumb, Einojuhani Rautavaara, Henri Dutilleux, Hans-Werner Henze and Krzysztof Penderecki. ...
