Britney Spears is to play a prominent role at this month's Midem conference with the launch in Cannes of her first film and a performance at the NRJ Awards that coincide with the event.

The Jive-signed artist plans to hold a press conference about the road movie Crossroads at the Carlton Hotel on January 19 ahead of appearing at the NRJ Awards, which are launching the conference on the same evening.

A host of UK stars including Virgin Records' Mick Jagger, Cheeky/Arista's Dido and EMI:Chrysalis's Robbie Williams will also take the stage at the third annual NRJ event at the Palais des Festivals, which is being broadcast live in partnership with Midem on France's TFI television station and NRJ radio. MC Solaar, Jean-Jacques Goldman and Mylene Farmer are among the local acts performing at the awards.
