2002 JAN 30 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- All children entering public and private schools for the first time in Nevada are required to be vaccinated against hepatitis A and B, the Nevada State Health Division has announced.
The recommendations will go into effect on July 1, 2002, prior to the beginning of the 2002 school year. Hepatitis A and B are the most frequently reported vaccine-preventable diseases in the United States.
"Vaccination against these diseases has become the standard of medical practice and no child in Nevada should go through life without the protection of these vaccines," said Robert Salcido, MPH, program manager, Nevada State Health Division Immunization Program. "The Board of Health added hepatitis A and B vaccination to the state requirements to help reduce the incidence of these serious and sometimes life-threatening illnesses among Nevada children."
