Tuesday observances of Christmas and New Year's Day, which resulted in consecutive five-day weekends, paid a box office dividend to close out 2001. The two extended frames, combined with the midweek span, generated holiday period B.O. of $539 million over 12 days, 13% above the $477 million earned in 11 days during the comparable holiday period from 2000.
