2002 JAN 23 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- The South Korean military will buy anthrax vaccines for the first time next year as a precaution against possible biological terrorism, a Defense Ministry official said.
The ministry will spend 2 billion won (US$1.54 million) on vaccines from the United States and Russia, enough to inoculate 10,000 soldiers, the official said on the condition of anonymity. The South Korean military currently has no anthrax vaccine in stock for its 650,000 soldiers, he said.
The decision came amid mounting worries of possible biological terrorism. Concerns have been compounded by the discovery of anthrax-tained letters in the United States and other countries following the September 11 terror attacks in New York and Washington.
