Rowdy behavior by football fans has led at least two stadiums to ban the sale of bottled beer, a move that could hurt Miller Brewing Co. and its competitors.
Miller representatives are hoping to convince National Football League officials and stadium operators that a ban on plastic bottles isn't necessary, said Miller spokesman Scott Bussen.
In 1999, Miller Brewing became the first U.S. brewer to nationally market beer in plastic beer bottles. The operators of the Dome at America's Center in St. Louis and Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., announced Dec. 18 a ban on the sale of bottled beer.
