Called the Multi Purpose Taxi Program, the smart-card system is used by disabled people in Australia's Victoria state to receive automatic subsidies on taxi fares.

Linked to a global positioning system, the new technology reduces the potential for fraud by taxi drivers, passengers and taxi depots, says Glotec CEO Ray Leonard. Taxi fraud is estimated at A$10m/year.
