As Alfa Romeo prepares for a renewed assault on the U.S. market, the future of the Fiat division is clouded: The parent company will create a separate business unit for its Turin-based sports car builder.
Some suggest Fiat's move means Alfa will be combined with Ferrari and Maserati to create Fiat's own ``Premier Auto Group.'' That said, the smart money is on a possible sale, most likely to General Motors.
Naturally, Fiat refuses to comment on either hypothesis.
