Sport coupes. After a decade-long decline, sport coupes are making a comeback of sorts, thanks to the likes of Acura's RSX Type-S. Like the Integra before it, RSX epitomizes the VTEC driving experience with a freewheeling engine that spins out little torque but gobs of high-rpm fun. Add a taut, responsive chassis and a close-ratio six-speed, and the result is a world-class driving experience. But RSX gives its driver a level of sophistication in content, design and accommodations that the boy-racer Integra never did. Where Integra felt like a Civic derivative, with its hard-plastic console and minimalist seats, RSX Type-S has a driver-oriented cockpit-like interior layout, robust controls and seats that are more racing shells than chairs.
