The travel and lodging industries -- desperately hoping for a comeback next year from a dismal 2001 -- may not get their wish.

A forecast for travel spending in 2002 recently released by the Travel Industry Association (www.tia.org) in Washington, D.C., predicts that spending by travelers will fail to reach 2000 levels.
