When Teen Read Week began four years ago, the Young Adult Library Services Association was hopeful that it would forge a stronger link between libraries and teenagers. Now, more than 1,300 libraries who held Teen Read Week activities during this year's observance October 14-20, have registered on the Web site at ww.ala.org/teenread. With a wondrous variety of activities, including teens reading aloud to children, father/son discussion groups, visits by wrestlers and media stars, and Lord of the Rings trivia events, libraries across the country worked to "Make Reading a Hobbit" and to provide healthy youth-development activities for teens in their communities.
