Unigene Joint Venture To Sell Calcitonin In China.(Unigene Laboratories Inc. reports that Shijidazhuang Pharmaceutical Group will market calcitonin)
2001 DEC 27 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Unigene Laboratories, Inc. (UGNE) has announced that its joint venture in China with Shijiazhuang Pharmaceutical Group (SPG) plans to begin selling its injectable calcitonin in the first quarter of next year.
The finished product will be produced in China using bulk calcitonin manufactured in Unigene's New Jersey facility. SPG, which has established a focus in the treatment of bone disease, will provide the sales force for the product.
China is the world's largest osteoporosis market with an estimated 90 million sufferers and more than 15 million fractures per year. According to the Shanghai Medical Journal and Chinese medical experts, 90% of those over 60 and virtually all of those over 70 have the disease. Unigene's recent approval in Switzerland for its injectable calcitonin product will allow the joint venture to promote and market the product for the treatment of osteoporosis in ...
