2001 DEC 27 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Barr Laboratories' application to manufacture and market a generic version of Wyeth-Ayerst Pharmaceutical's Lo/Ovral oral contraceptive tablets.
The company said it would market the product, which was acquired as part of the merger with Duramed Pharmaceuticals, under the Cryselle trade name and that it would begin shipping generic Lo/Ovral in the first quarter of calendar 2002.
"This represents Barr's seventh generic oral contraceptive product," said Bruce L. Downey, Barr's chairman and CEO. "It joins our two Nortrel oral contraceptives, Aviane, Apri, Enpresse and generic Mircette in our growing portfolio of female health care products. ...
