... Health authorities may gain some leads on the recent anthrax attacks thanks to work being done by the INSTITUTE FOR GENOMIC RESEARCH (TIGR), which is sequencing a form of anthrax that was used in a recent mail attack.

Rockville-based TIGR received an award worth $200,000 from the NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION to help complete the genome map.

Federal investigators and health officials could use the genetic code, to determine, for example, whether the anthrax bacterium was genetically altered to increase its potency.
