Murcielago contrives to be both a pure Lamborghini and a product of mixed heritage. As the first new car from Sant'Agata Bolognese since Audi took over in 1998, it is destined to be forever known as the original Lamborg-Audi, but traces it roots much further back.

Murcielago replaces the 11-year-old Diablo, which was launched in January 1990 during Chrysler's ownership of the Italian sports car maker. Chrysler bought Lambo in 1987 and sold it in 1993, after the collapse of the supercar market in 1992.
