So there I was, in the driver's seat of a fairly pedestrian, garden-variety stock Ford Focus hatchback, lined up side-by-side on an empty street with a tuned-to-the-gills SVT Focus hatchback, engines revving, countdown sounding off...

That was me yelling out the numbers, by the way. Not simply to drag race for the sake of drag racing, though there's always some way to justify that in the name of research, but rather to get the first performance evaluation of Ford Special Vehicle Team's soon-to-bereleased entry into the all-important sport compact performance segment.
