Saving a Life
Tiffany Anne Baker was on safety patrol near Loretto Elementary School in Jacksonville, Florida. Two brothers played while waiting to cross the street. Suddenly the first-grade boy slipped and fell into the street. A car was coming.
Tiffany jumped into the street and waved her safety-patrol flag. The driver slammed on the brakes. Tiffany was given a Lifesaving Medal Award for saving the boy.
Calling for Help
You can help others and possibly save a life too. If someone is hurt, tell a teacher, a school nurse, or another adult you know. Someone who is badly hurt may need special help. If no one is around when someone gets hurt, go to a phone. Dial 0 for operator. In many places you may also dial 9-1-1. Ask your teacher whether you may dial 9-1-1 in your community.
