The adrenaline coursing through your body during stressful periods makes you more aware of your surroundings and can make you better able to deal with stressors. In fact, experts say that a little Stress for a short time can actually keep a person mentally sharp.
Sometimes, though, facing highly stressful situations for long periods can take a heavy toll. Some people in the face of such stress choose to escape--and end up putting themselves into even more stressful or dangerous situations. For instance, some kids try to escape their problems by smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, or using crack cocaine, marijuana, or other drugs.
When kids put pressure on other kids to do something, that's called peer pressure. Sometimes peer pressure helps kids stay out of trouble. But other times it can lead kids to do things they wouldn't ordinarily do.
