Suppose you want to take a cap off a bottle. Your fingers may not have enough strength. A bottle opener concentrates your strength in two places on the bottle cap and less force or strength is needed to take the cap off.

The bottle opener is a kind of lever. You don't have to push or pull so hard. The lever gives a mechanical advantage.

Suppose you need to get your bike up over a high curb. You could lift it or roll it up the inclined plane of a driveway.

The inclined plane of the driveway is longer than the height of the curb. But, you need more force to lift the bike than to roll it. The inclined plane gives a mechanical advantage.
