A rain forest is like a tall apartment building, with many different plants and animals living on different floors. Some animals that live high up never set foot on the forest floor.
Some animals move freely between layers. Look at the lists of some rain forest animals. Write their names in the level where they live. Draw their pictures also, if you wish.
Emergent Layer
Some rain forest trees grow higher than all the rest. They emerge from, or break out of, the canopy below.
Canopy
The branches and leaves of large rain forest trees receive direct sunlight. They spread out to form a canopy, or cover, over the rain forest.
