To safeguard yourself from E. coli food poisoning, cook your hamburgers and other meats until they are 155[degrees]F or above and no longer pink in the middle. The heat will kill any bacteria. If you are eating out and your hamburger isn't done in the middle, send it back!
5Tips for Safe Food
1. Don't keep food too long in the refrigerator. Refrigeration slows bacteria growth, but it doesn't stop it. Some meats--like chicken and turkey--spoil within a week--even in the refrigerator.
2. Chicken salad, tuna salad, and other food made with mayonnaise can stay two to three days at most in the refrigerator.
3. Throw out moldy bread. It's not OK to cut off the bad part. You can safely cut the mold off hard cheese if you cut away at least one inch around the mold.
4. Wash your hands before handling food.
5. Trust your nose and eyes; don't eat food that has a strange color or odor.
