Fun Food or Frankenfood?

Scientists have crossed cauliflower with broccoli to produce a vegetable shaped like cauliflower but green in color. Called broccoflower, it tastes sweeter than cauliflower and has twice the vitamin C and folic acid of either vegetable alone.

Have you ever seen a green cauliflower? A white tomato? A round carrot?

The white tomato has less acid than the redone, so it's easier on the stomach. New types of carrots have more beta carotene, thought to guard against heart disease and some cancers. Scientists are growing these new kinds of fruits and vegetables to be tastier, more nutritious, and easier to raise than traditional versions.

Put on your lab coat and create a new food by combining two or more existing foods, as the scientists did. Go to the library and find out what health benefits are provided by the foods you decide to use. Draw your new food, name it, and tell what health benefits it would provide.
