Stress is any extra demand on a system. Disasters cause tremendous stress, but everyday events can put pressure on you and cause stress too. If you put too much importance on winning a game, you may fumble the ball.
Stress is how a person's body reacts to change mentally, physically, and socially. It's part of life, and it's not necessarily bad, because it revs up your system. Stress serves you in many ways.
* It gives you a burst of energy to deal with an emergency.
* It motivates you to study for a test.
* It keeps you alert when you're speaking in front of an audience.
* It gives you extra strength to make it to home plate--fast.
Stress comes in both good and bad forms. Good stress may come from happy events--getting an A on your report card, preparing for a holiday, making a new friend. Bad stress comes from unhappy events--death of a loved one, failing at something important to you, quarreling with a friend.
