Feelings and Behavior
A feeling--also called an emotion--is a mind-body answer to something. Let's take fear: Your brain and your body get the message that something is happening.
Depending on how you usually react to things, your blood pressure may rise, certain chemicals in your body may be released or retained, you may feel hot or cold, or get an upset stomach.
Feelings aren't good or bad--they just happen; you can't always control them. So don't let anyone tell you "You shouldn't feel like that."
Behavior is another story-that is something you can control. If you feel jealous because your friend got an A on a test and you got a B, that feeling is OK. But it's not OK behavior for you to kick him in the shins or to cheat on the next test. Understand the difference?
Have you ever felt that your emotions were affecting your behavior? What was happening? What did you do?
