Is all peer pressure bad? Fortunately, the answer is no. Good peer pressure encourages others to do the right thing. One student can convince another to turn down drugs, not be a snob, or join a program with a positive goal. You may think you're too young to make a difference, but you're not.

When Melissa Poe of Nashville, Tennessee, was 9 years old, she was very worried about pollution. She wrote to the President. She expressed her concern on billboards. Other young people joined her, and the organization Kids For A Clean Environment (Kids FACE) was started. Kids FACE now has more than 30,000 members worldwide.

You don't have to start a worldwide environmental group to make a difference. You can join an existing group. You can organize a small group to solve a problem you see in your school or community. You can find out about groups or clubs in your school. Go to the library to research statewide or national organizations. Call your local Y, Scouts, town recreational center, or youth club.
