Have you ever heard someone say these things or said them yourself? If so, you've seen peer pressure in action. Peer pressure occurs when a person your age pushes you to do something.
Resisting Peer Pressure
Resisting peer pressure can be very hard. But there are things that can make it easier to resist. Counting to 10 while you think about what might happen often will do the trick.
Something else that might help is saying, "If I do that, my folks will kill me." Discuss this approach at home. Chances are your family won't mind taking the blame, especially if they know it will help you make the right kinds of choices when it counts.
Can you think of other ways to resist peer pressure?
Split the class into two teams. One team should try to convince Lindsay to go along with the crowd. Each should take a turn tempting her to say yes. Each member of the other team should answer with a way to say no.
The next time you are faced with peer pressure--to experiment with drugs or anything else you think is unsafe or a bad idea--use some of these ways to say "No!"
