After ten years of testing, a chicken pox vaccine may soon be on the market. Scientists haven't rushed to develop a chicken pox vaccine because chicken pox is not life-threatening. But children miss a lot of school because of the illness. Have you had chicken pox? If yes, do you wish you'd have had the vaccine instead? Why or why not? If no, would you like to have the vaccine? Why or why not?
Don't Catch It
Being vaccinated is the best way to avoid getting sick from a communicable disease. However, doctors don't have a vaccine for every communicable disease. There is no vaccine for a cold. But you can follow these steps to stay healthy.
1. Keep your distance from people who are sick with a cold, flu, or other communicable illness.
2. Wash your hands often with soap.
3. Keep your hands out of your mouth and away from your eyes.
4. Choose good foods and get plenty of sleep. Then your body can do a better job of fighting germs.
