Some people who can't see use a guide dog to help them. The guide dog is trained to help its owner and keep its owner safe. It sees dangers its owner can't see. Then the dog guides its owner safely around the danger.

Your senses help keep you safe. You may smell smoke before you see a fire. You should always look and listen for cars before you cross a street. Your sense of touch warns you of things that are hot, sharp, or rough. It's important to pay attention to the warning signs your senses give.

Your senses protect you by warning you of danger. You need to protect your senses to keep them working.

Your eyes and ears need special care because they can be hurt easily. You can strain your eyes by reading in the dark and burn them by staring at the sun. You can hurt your ears by putting cotton swabs or small things in them. You can also hurt them by having the sound too loud on the TV, radio, or tape player.
