Who Can Help? (Getting Help).(where you can get help in case of an emergency)
The Flight for Life helicopter ambulance service of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, makes about 1,000 trips each year to rescue people who are hurt. A person who is hurt in a bad accident needs to get to a hospital fast. A road ambulance can bring people to a hospital very fast. A helicopter ambulance can get to a hospital even faster than a road ambulance.
Paramedics are medical workers who ride in both kinds of ambulances to care for people who are hurt. Both kinds of ambulances have medical equipment inside. The paramedics use the equipment until they get to the hospital. There doctors and nurses take over for paramedics.
Important Helpers
Paramedics, doctors, and nurses are health-care workers. They know how to help people who are sick or hurt. Another health-care worker is your school nurse.
Firefighters and police officers are important helpers too. Of course, firefighters help people when there is a fire, but they also help people in car accidents and other emergencies.
